INSPIRATION: [deener] Ya-el’s inspiration for [deener]
is rooted in her passion for, “geometric patterns
and shapes”, “an obsession with 50’s era
modern design and graphics” a “lifetime of scouring
vintage stores, yard sales and flea markets” and a
“certain miniature dachshund named, Willard also known
as, [deener]”… and what could be more inspiring
than that?
THE PEOPLE: [deener] [deener] was founded in 2005 by Ya-el
Torbati and Jack Karcher (PL Industries) under the newly
formed, Real Indigo LLC. The first collection was launched
for the Fall of 2006.
Jack Karcher (PL Industries) is a 20 year veteran of the
denim business, highly respected for his dealings with some
of the best-known apparel companies in the fashion industry.
PL Industries is one of the largest producers of, “high-end
private label jeans” in the world. PL’s knowledge
of logistics and finances and proven leadership in production
and operations has made [deener] one of the hottest, up
and coming, premium denim lines in the world.
Ya-el Torabati, [deener] designer/creator was Born in Jerusalem
and raised in New Orleans. Ya-el, prepared for a future
in design at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology
(F.I.T.) in New York. Upon graduation, Ya-el went on to
accumulate eight years of design experience including a
five year stint as the senior designer of women’s
denim for American Eagle Outfitters. Armed with this invaluable
experience and expertise in fit, fabric and finishing, Ms.
Torbati relocated to Los Angeles in 2002 and became the
founding designer of the highly successful denim brand,
Yanuk.
With over ten years of experience designing and working
within the denim medium, [deener] is the ultimate accumulation
of Ya-el’s creative influences and dedication to her
work.
